GT
Interactive bills 1602 A.D. as a blend of two "exciting" genres, part empire
builder and part real time strategy game. 1602 A.D. just arrived in U.S.
stores but it has been available in Europe for several months, although
there it bore the moniker "Anno 1602". In Germany it was the best-selling
game for several months. Besides that, the game has very low system
requirements for a game coming out on the market in early 2000.

The game is very graphically detailed. You can zoom in on your city to see
jesters performing tricks, people walking the streets, foresters cutting trees,
or a fireman running to a raging fire to put it out. When a worker needs more
materials, watch him walk to the market place. Even the little videos indicating
important events are well done.

The laid back music is enough to support a very
long game, but keeps changing without becoming
annoying. ~ Nick Woods, All Game Guide .

Once you master city creation, the forty scenarios
will take months to complete. Campaigns are long
and different each time you play.

The game's manual is fantastic, giving building trees for different types of
cities. For example, if you want to devote your efforts to growing and selling
food, the chart shows what buildings you'll need.
